God’s provision for the end time

When we look at the end-time, the confusion and all the challenges before us, one can only be consoled with the promise and assurance that God has a plan  for us. Yet, we cannot be vague about how God will see us through. Rather we should bend down to study, and then utilize the definite provision that God has made available to us in scriptures. By God’s grace, this message is intended for that purpose. May God grant us the neccesary and pre-requisite understanding in Jesus name-Amen!.
“But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayers” 1 Pet. 4: 7

The above scripture presents two lines of thoughts and considerations. The first direction is an affirmation that the end time is already here! Sudden, Definite, and Unobstuctive! The second direction is the implication-that everything will soon finish…the good, the bad, and the ugly “…all things”; not just bad things. We are all going to be scattered, and living in the midst of conflicts predicted and outlined in several generations of Bible prophecies and empirical deductions. As much as can be deduced, contradictions and divergencies will be so much, that even in the Church, getting people that have the same conviction with you will become difficult and you will then discover that you are a lonely man. Even as a preacher, you will look for preachers of the same persuasion and you will not find. You will certainly feel lonely.

1. Obey The Whole Instructions Of Scriptures on Day To Day Living…
There is a way that the end time will not be a problem for you. It is to follow the divine provisions in the scriptures that God has provided for us not as a crash programme; but as a way of life! And I dare say, if one walks in the will of God, the devil is not so powerful that God has left us at his whims and caprices without a help. Actualy, what is making the issue of the end time emphatic and belaboured is that several of us have taken for granted the basic instruction of Jesus… the lifestyle that He taught us. We seem to have forgotten where we are going and we are thinking just like a ‘student’. A good student starts going for prep and visiting the library as soon as he or she gets to school. He takes his notes regularly and crosschecks them and assimilates on a regular basis so that when an examination is announced, that student will not be embarrassed nor afraid. Unfortunately not many students are like that. Most collect notes and lectures, and pile them. Instead, they listen to music or read magazines that have no relevance to what they came to school for. They travel around. When the term is coming to an end, they suddenly begin to panic as they inquire about time-table for exam. When the time-table is out, radios are quiet, and they now go about carrying big uncrossed-checked notes. They rush to meet up.

Unfortunately, escaping the end-time pollution, and going to heaven is not a crash programme. We cannot crash into heaven. The problem is that the Day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night. If it were possible to live anyhow until the time of His coming Is announced when all wrong things would be corrected, one could quickly gather material on issues that have been neglected and study them. Unfortunately God is not looking for knowledge; neither will the time be announced. For some of us, if it is just knowledge that it would take, we would make it. But what God is looking for is LIFE!, and it takes time for LIFE to form. God is not looking for good knowledge; God is looking for men with LIFE. LIFE that has been proved and tested. So, preparation for the end time cannot be a crash programme. The way God has arranged for us to scale through the end-time is by a combination of simple and cumulative instruction, on day to day living that if you concentrate on, the Day of the Lord will not catch you unawares.

“Then shall the kingdom of Heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and stept. And at midnight, there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet Him. Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise, give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. But the wise answered, saying, not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and they that were ready went with Him to the marriage: and the door was Shut.” . Matt.25-1-10 

Look at the story of the ten virgins. One lesson to learn from that story is the fact that even if there should be a burning low of your LFFE, there is a minimum level it cannot come below, because you have taken time to prepare your life all along. When the midnight cry came, everybody got up. The entire ten virgins began to trim their light. But the issue is not whether you got up at the dying minutes. The issue the Lord is dealing with is that even though they all woke up and began to trim their light, oil could not just get into the lamps. The issue of oil in the lamp is something that is internalized which flows to cause light to glow. The unfortunate thing for the five foolish virgins, even though they were revived when the cry came, was that there was no oil for them to make it. The THING that makes a man to meet the Master was not in their lives. So they knew they were in trouble. They knew He was coming, they wanted Him to come and they were ready for Him to come but they lacked a SOMETHING that would make them to meet Him and you do not get that SOMETHING overnight. So they ran to the others and begged them to lend them out of what they had. What will make a man to make heaven is not a crash programme but what you have deposited in your life over a period of time. If you do not emphasize this issue of LJFE you will not make it. You will wake up, be at alert and know the right button to press yet there will be a SOMETHING lacking and that thing will be a matter of LIFE. LIFE is not got by crash programme nor overnight. LIFE comes through a series of cummulative exposure to the truth, and unto the word of God. You will not overgrow patience. A sister that is used to beign angry will not sudenly stop being angry. Even in the midst of trying to stop being angry, she will become angry again. I want you to have this perspective so that you can know what to do. Pray sincerely and expect something cumulative and lasting to start in you.

When those virgins came out they knew the bridegroom was at the door and they tried to trim their lamps. This could mean our righteousness, faithfulness, consecration, and service e.t.c. The more they trimmed up their lamps the more the lamps were going down. It was then they discovered that what makes light to glow was lacking. They suddenly perceived that even if they waited, they would only be met with a dark lamps because they had no more oil to meet Him.
Shortly before Jesus will come there is going to be ‘midnight cry’, an awakening that will be known to every body. But that midnight cry will not necessarily add to the number that will go to heaven. When the foolish virgins came to the reality, they begged the others to lend them their oil. But those sisters felt that if they gave them, their oil would not be enough any longer. They were not being greedy; neither was it that they did not know ‘how to give’. They were following a simple principle. So they said, what they had was enough for themselves. Brethren, when it comes to the issue of life, it can only be sufficient for one person. The LIFE, the character; the holiness; and nature of Jesus that accumulate within you can only be sufficient for YOUR LIFE, there are no left overs. No matter how holy a husband is, there is no way he can share it with his wife. If a husband wants to help his wife he can only advise just as those others advised the foolish virgins. “Lest it be insufficient for us all, go to the source of the oil’. If you want to help a man concerning the issue of LIFE, you do not give him your LIFE to go and use. It does not work out that way. Each man will have to learn himself. A hot-tempered husband with a gentle wife does not have gentleness to use because of the gentility of his wife. What you do not learn now, you will not get it when the Master is at the door. What has not become your LIFESTYLE now will not become your LIFESTYLE suddenly when we begin to see signs here and there. Even though the urgency of the end time is here, God is saying we need to go and learn our lesson and walk with it.

At that midnight hour, those virgins went out to go and get oil. Where will they get it since the only person that gives the correct oil is Jesus? The time He was

available to give that oil, they did not go to Him. Then, He was available to assist but now He has come to judge. How can they make it? They went out because of a need in their lives. We need to learn a lesson from this story. Let us again go back and check our lives to see what God is emphasizing to us. God has made provision for us to make it in the end-time.
It may not look bogus but the preparation we need to make is simply living by the word of God day by day, learning lessons daily and not taking any issue for granted. For instance, do not let any root of sin or bitterness in your life. Make sure every decision you take in every aspect of your life aligns with the truth of the word of God. Ensure that every friend you keep does not contradict what the simple word of God has taught. Make sure you believe the truth of the word of God not just by nodding the head and saying, ‘that’s right’. LIVE-OUT the word of God. God is not wicked to play our lives into the hands of the devil. You cannot be following the instructions of Jesus and suddenly find yourself in hell. God can be trusted and dependable.
In the light of the end time, can you check how consistently you have decided to walk with the word of God?. 1Peter 2:11-18:
“Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; Having your conversation honest among the gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evil doers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation. Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake: whether it be to the king, as Supreme; or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by Him for the punishment of evil doers, and for the praise of them that do well. For so is the  will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: As free, and not using your liberty for a cloak of maliciousness, but as the servants of God. Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king. Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward.”

God gave all instructions such as above for us to check and follow especially in our relationship with others. You need to insist on following all such simple instructions.

Even on the issue of marriage, He did not keep quiet because He knows we will keep marrying until Christ will come. In fact when Jesus will come some people will be planning their marriages. So He went on to give instructions on how to be a correct husband and wife. He did all these in the light of the end-time. Again, we say to you that all such simple instructions for daily living are the provisions for confronting and triumphing over the end-time. You cannot forget about your marriage because it is not working in the name of preparing for the end-time. There are instructions on how to handle it. If you follow it even though you might just think you are being a good wife or a good husband, you are actually preparing for the end time.

Be ‘Clear-Minded’ in All Issues!

“For as much then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;” 1 Pet.4:1 .

Sometimes I wonder over the simplicity of God’s provision. Very simple instructions. It says, as Christ suffered in His body… make up your mind and be ready to know that in order not to get contaminated in the end time, be ready also to suffer. How did Jesus handle all the hostilities and the problems around Him? He made up His mind that if the world will not allow Him do the will of God, He can do without the world. When Jesus came to that conclusion nothing mattered to Him again. Nothing was important to Him. He had finished with the problem of sin. The Holy Spirit now says any man who is ready to suffer in his flesh has got victory over sin. Do you know that every indulgence in sin is a pampering of the flesh? When you cannot get a job because you must give a bribe first and you are a man who is ready to go without a job for the next two years if it means giving a bribe, you can never get into trouble. Think of the last time you compromised. You told yourself glibly that “the world is difficult. Even if I understand can my children and wife understand?” The whole world is difficult because there is a secret power of lawlessness that is working. The only way to overcome that power is to be ready to suffer whatever it is. Let nothing be more important than making the kingdom of God. Each time you have to tell a lie, is it not because you do not want to suffer shame? Yet we do not mean that self-discipline or wrongful treatment of self has power to deal with sin. God is only dealing with the mind. He says, “have this same mind”. Before anything appeals to you in this world, it must appeal to your mind. By this, I do not mean asceticism i.e people cutting their body, refusing to eat, suffering their body so that they will not sin. But there is a quiet weapon that iniquity will use. It is called the “seducing spirit”. It provides you with some soft touch. It appeals to your mind and tells you that God understands… you are a human being. It tells you to cool down. What will make a sister to go ‘and marry an unbeliever? Is it not a consideration in the mind “that if you continue this kind of strong and strict Christian life, there will be no place to fit in?

In some Bible schools today instead of teaching holiness, they teach dressing. There are some pastors’ wives that have returned from ‘abroad’, and are teaching other pastors’ wives how to dress. Some years ago a pastor’s wife opened a hair dressing salon side by side with the church. In the midst of these worldliness, you will certainly look odd in your refusal and consecration. But if you do not mind to look odd you will overcome the spirit of lawlessness. It will not overcome you.

This instruction does not look like an end-time instruction. It is the instruction you get as soon as you repent. And yet, if you have followed this instruction consistently, you will not be struggling to stand in this end-time. For instance, the quality of dress you wear will not be a matter to you now. None of us gets dressed up in our houses at night. This is because people are not around to look at you. When there are people around to look at you and you do not want that kind of comment they make, you struggle to make up. The end time looks so difficult and serious but I would like to inform you that the principle that conquers the spirit of iniquity is the simple principles of the word of God. Every word that comes from the mouth of God is more powerful and stronger than the most sophisticated discovery of satan. Every instruction from the mouth of God can never be outdated. It keeps working and it handles the devil effectively.

What will make me change my message? Is it seeing some young preachers wearing big ‘agbada’, with some young girls going around them and a big car parked outside, boasting about their last trip abroad? What will make me think I am not making it? What will make me feel that the road I am taking is not correct and I needed adjustment? Is it not the desire not to suffer? This suffering is not that of flogging with the cane. There is intimidation with the eyes, provocation by display. They do not seem to be facing you, but as they display they are sending fiery darts into your heart. They are punishing you. I was reading about Lot in this kind of world. The Bible says Lot was seriously punished in his righteous soul with the reckless manifestation and display of the ungodly. Why did it look like a torment? It becomes a torment if i have not made up my mind to suffer intimidation, condemnation, and provocation. I hope you know that your shoe is good enough for you until you see someone wearing something better. Sister, I hope you know that you never had any problem even though you have only three blouses until another so-called Christian sister came around you with a whole box of blouses of different colours. Any day she wants to ‘go green’ it is ‘green all through’. Was that not the time that your poverty became apparent? If you have learnt this principle, end time will not be a problem. Do not force us to look for extraneous principles apart from the tested principle of the Bible — simple and straight forward, yet very effective.

“,..arm yourselves also with the same attitude because He who has suffered in His body is done with sin”, 1Peter 4: 1

I hope you know that the basic weapon the spirit of lawlessness is using is very effective simply because you have not become ready to make light what looks big.
“Say ye not, A confederacy, to all them to whom this people shall say, A confederacy; neither fear ye their fear, nor be afraid.” Isaiah 8:12 

I pray you understand. The first mistake one can make is to regard those against you as having succeeded. I am not ashamed of the gospel. This is the secret men of old learnt. They never got to a situation where they became ashamed of the way of life they chose. They never allowed anybody to intimidate them as if they chose a wrong path. When Bro. Paul had suffered affliction so much, he called it a light affliction (2 Cor 4:17). This is what somebody will be crying about. Yet to Paul it is a light affliction; it was what they learnt that saw them through, there is no other secret. God is not making end time unbearable for us. Even if the world becomes twenty times worse I will still overcome because He says in 1John 5:4 “For whatever is born of God overcometh the World …” To these men even when the world was offered to them free of charge they still concluded that they were not looking for a city built with the hands of men. They were looking for the one that has foundation in the heavenlies. You need to attack the power of lawlessness by dealing with the root of what he is presenting, otherwise you will not make it. As long as you feel in your heart that you are missing the world you will soon go back. You keep wondering how those ‘SU’ brothers of twenty years ago are preaching a different message now. It is because they feel they were oppressed by the message they listened to twenty years ago. When some people came and told them there are ways to make it and still be a Christian they felt they were cheated all this while, so they began to adjust. Even you will adjust as long as you think there is something in the world that you have missed.

When Abraham came to this point he saw the world and had opportunity to make it but he said this “had no foundation”. You need to have a correct conceptual understanding of what is going on. When we have the correct concept things will be all right. What do you call progress, promotion, prosperity or ‘making it’ in this world? If we can get correct definitions, we can stand up and refuse what the man of lawlessness will want to give us. It will be useless and considered a “mess of pottage”. Nothing will then interest us among his goods because what we have is a thousand times more precious than any of them.

The Bible says “let this mind…” we are dealing with the mind. To survive the end time is not a crash programme. Your mind has to change. Anytime you pass a ‘big house’ with all the trappings of the world, do you feel miserable in your heart? If you have such a heart, you will backslide sooner or later. What made Lot’s wife to go back? Lot’s wife could not cherish where they were going in her mind. She felt she was missing something as she looked at the front and saw emptiness, She could not help but look back. There is no recipe to keep you in the end time if you do not follow the simple word of God. There are people who were more serious, more holy than you ten years ago. Why did they go back? Even when they were carrying the message of holiness, they were begrudging God. They were not satisfied. They occasionally felt that God has been unduly harsh on them because of heaven. They feel they could have been better than some unbelievers if not for Christianity.

To deal with the power of the world system is to get to the root. Tell the world exactly what it is — “things without foundation, ephemerals that will pass away…” You are not being psychological, you are telling the truth. Do not envy any man in the world. Do not ask for anointing that will make you like another man. When you are asking for the blessings of God, do not ask for the things of this world. They are not important. You need to settle that in your heart. This is the
provision for dealing with the end time.

Pleasure And Coveteousness -The Twin Evils To Avoid…

Lovers of pleasures….” 2.Timothy 3:4

What else will make men backslide? It is the love for pleasure. If a man can decide that he does not want pleasure, for the Bible says in 1Timothy 5:6 “But she that liveth in pleasure is dead while she liveth”. The Bible is very simple and straight forward. They are not issues you do not know before. The only way to prepare for the end time is to just live the Christian life, follow the word, read the Bible again and again. Try to find out what people are talking about and boasting about. Look at Jesus dealing with the spirit of the end time in Luke 12:13-15:

“And one of the company said unto Him, Master, speak to my brother, that he divide the inheritance with me. And He said unto him, man, who made me a judge or a divider over you? And He said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: For a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.”

The question Jesus asked in verse 14 touched my mind. Jesus seems to be asking, why is He being made what He is not. You hear preachers saying “come to Jesus He will give you houses”. And Jesus seems to be asking, who made Him such an officer over you? Is that what He has been appointed to give to men? And He says beware of covetousness. What is covetousness about a man who has a right in this world with his father’s property and another person is not giving him? He was asking for his own and not the other man’s. Can that be called covetousness? Covetousness is a desire to have something you do not need immediately even if it is legally yours. If you do not get fundamental with the word of God, the spirit of end time will catch you. What is the secret that is making many brothers to backslide? They feel it is their right to make it in this world because they are ‘king’s kids’ but Jesus says, “beware of covetousness — for the life of a man does not depend on the abundance of things he has”. Yet our own definition of a rich man is in abundance of possession. When covetousness is inside of you the power of lawessness will catch you. Jesus knows it is a battle, and that the devil is raging, so He started right early to give instructions. The time we have spent running after what the human nature loves to have is enough. Let us spend the rest of our time doing the will of God. You have spent enough time in the past doing what pagans choose to do. So the scripture says;                                                                                        “the end of all things is at hand, be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayers” KJV “The end of all things is near. You must be self controlled and alert, to be able to pray.” GDN

I know why God wants us to deal with the mind. It is because what will give you victory is the mind. If in my mind what I left twenty years ago became precious to me again, it means I am out of my mind. I will not be thinking properly… To be clear minded simply means to clear one’s mind of garbage, wrong perceptions, wrong confessions, and ambitions. Bring out everything that is going on in your mind and weigh it in the light of eternity. Check if the things you are occupying your mind with are really worth it. As you take them out one after the other and your mind becomes clear, you will see properly and see the world for what it is. The moment you see that the world is not going anywhere but just ‘round and round’, you will choose not to follow it. Take an illustration of when “baggy” trousers or “keep Lagos clean” came out. All normal trousers were discarded. After about one year “pencil” trousers came. To remove trousers,you needed an assistance or you added zip. Yet nobody questioned the rationale behind Investing in a zip when you could easily expand the trouser. It should have been good to take time enough to find out the powers behind this fashion changes. One might be thinking there are human beings that sit and direct the world on the next direction of fashion to go when in actual fact, it is being directed by the prince of this world, the “spirit of lawlessness”. You will find out that if you do not follow the fashion, nothing really happens to you. You may be called old fashioned, but it does not reduce you now or make you less effective. You need to clear your mind and find out where the world system is going so that it will not become a treasure in your life. When Paul said “Let nobody trouble me”, he came to the point of victory in dealing with the end time. You need a correct analysis of what the world system is all about and what the devil is all about. When you come to that conclusion, — you will simply say “leave me alone”. All you will be saying is that you have chosen the “way of Calvary”. Be clear minded. This instruction is simple and effective. The world will change but Jesus does not change. His principles are ever fresh and always relevant. What ever becomes of your country in twenty years’ time, it will not affect you. New ideas and all the different things people are bringing will not affect you. The provision for dealing with the end time is the simple, unassuming word of God that you need to give yourself to. You must decide to follow Jesus and His instruction. Make it a personal choice, it cannot be a group decision.

You must decide not to change with the world. If you keep changing, your mind is in confusion and you are not clear minded. The world has confused you. The prince of the power of the air has got you by pushing his own definition to your mind. Can you find out where they are going? They are not going anywhere. Do not envy the world. Do not be moved by what they are doing. Follow the narrow way. It has been proven to be faithful. You can never follow the instruction of Jesus and miss the way. It will be all right with you. Do you know that if you follow the simple instruction of Jesus you will not know “austerity”? This is because the basic things you need for life, nothing has affected them. The things the world system has affected are the things that are not your necessities for LIFE.

How can you be clear-minded. How was Moses ever able to withstand Pharaoh? The Bible says; “he esteemed the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt …” Heb. 11.26. He did not see any other thing. What do you see in your mind? When people felt that Moses was missing the throne, Moses could not understand what they were saying because he saw something that has foundation and is more authentic though not visible to the human eye. Men of faith were able to overcome by “seeing Him, who is invisible”.

To apply the fact of the end time to our responsibility towards the gospel is still the issue of ‘how you see it’. What you spend your money on is what you think is important. There are several of us that the only time you went home to your village and you needed to spend a night sleeping on the one bed with bed bugs that your father left, you could not tell the people you went with that it was your house. This led to the ambition that is making you to insist on having a house in your village. Yet, when are you packing there to go and settle? Are you spending all that money to have a place to sleep once in five years? You are confused, you do not know where you are going. When you finish the building it will become a place for rats, cockroaches. You are not clear -minded. If you were clear-minded you would have pursued what is functional, usable, and can be converted. How can you be worried about where you are going to sleep for only one night?

PRAYER: An Imperative For The End Time Believer!
Another crucial provision for combating and triumphing over the end time is prayers. But many Christians default in this. When Jesus was dealing with the issues of the end time, He said it is the only way you can escape the world and be able to stand before the Son of man. Prayer is sensitivity to God that makes a man to keep asking for definite direction daily from God. Jesus said it in simple language. You are likely to overlook it and look for big things that will not carry you anywhere. Look at the example of when Jesus saw that the devil was planning to ‘sift’ Peter. All He did was to pray. He knew that prayer will take one out of the snare of the devil. Because iniquity will abound and the love of many will wax cold, the devil will set traps for Christians, But prayer will help one not to enter into those traps. I do not know all about the diabolical means the devil is going to use in the end time and how many years he is going to try the Christians and how many traps he is going to put in our ways but Jesus had made a provision. “Watch and pray so that you do not enter into temptation”.

A man who can pray will never enter into what power of lawlessness is doing in the end time. Each time a trap is arranged for the child of God, he will jump it. The devi will only conclude that he is a prayerful man because God will always direct such a man’s feet so that he does not fall into the trap of the devil. The children of Israel were to go through the wildness where there are terrible things. But the Bible says the cloud went before them by day and night. None of those lions came and devoured them because God went with them. The world system will not be better, iniquity will continue but God has decided that in this wilderness, He will lead us home. Prayer is the provision that will lead us home. You can not be a prayerful person and fall. Jesus proved it. When the devil wanted to tempt Him, He prayed, when the devil wanted to catch Peter, He prayed.

The Bible says “be clear-minded so that you can pray”. God seems to be quietly saying as long as your mind is muddled up with the things of the world you cannot really pray. Prayer that will deliver you from the end time is prayer that comes from a man with a clear-mind. A prayer life that even if somebody says there is a contract that will give you one million you can soberly think and analyze what you needed one million for. If it is not a need, you can easily say no to such a contract. But if you are not clear-minded a simple suggestion of submitting a curriculum vitae to get a job that will last for some time and then you can go back to the mission field will be a prayer item for you. Suddenly, you begin to see needs that will be met even for the ministry. It is a trap. You might find yourself running round in circles. If you are not clear minded you will not pray. If as a preacher all you are looking for is a large congregation, you will be told what to do to make it happen. And whether these people get to heaven or not is not your concern since that is what you are looking for. You can fall. If there is any interest of the world system in your heart, no matter how small, you will fall.

Since prayers is God’s provision for the end time, you need to find out the kind of prayer Jesus prayed that made Him to escape the trap. What kind of prayer did Paul pray that made him to go through all that conflict and at the end he could say “I have fought the good fight’’.
Can you clear your mind? What are the things that you regard as difficulties in your life? Are they not the same issues the world system is running after? If you have not overcome sin, whatever your eyes see, you will desire it. It was what killed Solomon. He got everything his eyes desired but the conclusion of his life, he said, was vanity. You need to analyze what is in your mind as you bow your head in prayer. God’s provision is the simple word of God that is enough to see a man through.
